Safe Exam Browser ENG
Safe Exam Browser (SEB)
Safe Exam Browser is a web browser environment to carry out e-assessments safely. The software turns any computer temporarily into a secure workstation. It controls access to resources like system functions, other websites, and applications and prevents unauthorized resources from being used during an exam.
SEB is already integrated into TalTech Moodle.
Safe Exam Browser (SEB)
Managed web browser, which can be configured using encrypted configuration files
Using special hyperlinks, SEB can be started from other web browsers and reconfigured individually per exam
Fullscreen mode or multiple browser windows which can be resized (without any navigation elements), browser tabs on iPad
VM detector: SEB detects whether it is running on a virtual machine or a jailbroken device and can refuse to start up
URL filter to allow accessing only specific websites, pages, or resources
Certificate pinning to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks on the connection to exam servers
Spell checking and dictionary lookup are disabled, but can optionally be allowed
Supported operating systems: Windows (7, 8.1, 10), macOS (10.7 or above, recommended 10.11 or above), and iOS (9.3.5 or above). Not available for Linux.
Disadvantages of Safe Exam Browser
SEB's disadvantage is that this software does not guarantee 100% that the student is who he claims to be. If the goal is to cheat, the student can use another device during the exam, such as another computer, mobile phone, or any other remote assistance. SEB is especially useful in rooms created for taking exams, where the software is installed on local computers.

Conditions for using Safe Exam Browser
If the use of SEB is specified in the extended syllabus at the beginning of the semester and the syllabus is available in the ÕIS, student consent is not required, and the use of SEB is mandatory for the exam.
If the extended syllabus does not mention the use of SEB or the syllabus is not available in the ÕIS, student consent is required to use SEB on the student's computer.
If the student does not agree to exam monitoring, another way of taking the exam must be guaranteed following the current arrangements of studies.
