What is MOIS?

MOIS is the integration solution of Moodle and Study information system (ÕIS), that will combine all integrations between Moodle and ÕIS in the future.

Currently, MOIS allows the lecturer to create a new Moodle course himself and also to create a connection between the Moodle course and the ÕIS subject-teacher pair. All courses will be archived three weeks after the end of the semester. Archiving allows to preserve the course along with the associated students and their learning analytics data. At the same time, students will be able to access the courses they have already completed.

For the new semester, new Moodle courses must be created for the subjects with the corresponding ÕIS subject-teacher pair relationship. The content of the previous semester's Moodle course can be imported onto the blank course created at the beginning of the semester. If you need help with these steps, please contact your faculty's instructional designer.

NB! If the Moodle course is linked to the ÕIS subject-teacher pair, the lecturer cannot unlink it himself. If it is necessary to do this for some reason (e.g. the wrong Moodle course is associated with a subject-teacher pair by mistake), please contact moodle@taltech.ee.

The MOIS pilot project is a prerequisite for the implementation of all subsequent Moodle-ÕIS developments, which greatly simplify the work of the lecturer.

Using MOIS

To create a new course and link it to Moodle, select 'MOIS (Create new course)' from the left menu bar.

Good to know:

  • If a subject-teacher pair has not been created for the lecturer in ÕIS, the 'MOIS (Create a new course)' option will not be displayed in Moodle.
  • If the subject-teacher pair has been newly created, it can take up to 24 hours for the MOIS (Create a new course) button to appear in Moodle.

Create a new course

Under this option, a new Moodle course page is created, which is linked to the subject-teacher pair created in ÕIS. If the subject-teacher pair has not been formed in ÕIS, ask your institute to form it.


To create a new course, press the 'Create a new Moodle course' button on the MOIS page.

In special cases, when it is not possible to create pairs at the institute, send a request for a new course to moodle@taltech.ee, containing the following information:

  • Course code, title, language
  • Name of the lecturer(s)
  • Institute

If you have requested a new course via moodle@taltech.ee, you must later manually link the created course to the ÕIS subject-teacher pair (see Link Moodle course to subject).

  1. Vali rippmenüüst semester, millele tahad uut Moodle'i kursust luua.
  2. Kui semester on valitud, kuvatakse ainete väljal vastavaks semestriks loodud aine-õppejõu paarid. Aine valimiseks vajutage soovitud aine nimele. Valitud kursus märgistatakse linnukesega.
  3. Üldjuhul on kursused vaikimisi juba määratud õige instituudi alla ning instituudi valimise välja sel juhul ei kuvata. Juhul, kui instituut, mille alla kursus kuulub, tuleb valida käsitsi (EMERA ja Virumaa Kolledži ained), kuvatakse rippmenüü 'Instituut', kust saab valida õige üksuse.
  4. Soovi korral saad muuta kursuse nime väljal 'Kursuse täisnimi' (nt. lisada nimele toimumissemestri ja aastaarvu).
  5. Toimingu lõpetamiseks vajuta 'Loo uus Moodle'i kursus'.

Seose loomine on õnnestunud, kui MOIS-i töölaual Minu ained vaates kuvatakse staatuse all ketilüli märki ning aine reale on ilmunud link uuele Moodle'i kursusele. 

Uus loodud kursus on vaikimisi tühi. Kursuse kasutuselevõtuks tuleb valida, mida soovite kursusel kuvada. Esmakordselt kursust avades tuleb otsustada, millist sisu soovite kursusel kuvada. Võimalik on kursust luua nö. nullist ehk kasutada tühja eelseadistatud Moodle'i põhja. Alternatiivina saab uuele loodud kursusele üle tuua sisu mõnelt varasemalt Moodle'i kursuselt
  1. Select the semester for which you want to create a new Moodle course from the drop-down menu.
  2. If the semester is selected, subject-teacher pairs created for the corresponding semester are displayed in the subject field.To select a subject, click on the desired subject name.The selected course is marked with a check mark.
  3. Generally, the courses are already assigned to the correct institute by default, and the institute selection field is not displayed in this case.In the event that the institute to which the course belongs must be selected manually (EMERA and Virumaa College subjects), the drop-down menu 'Institute' will be displayed, from which the correct unit can be selected.
  4. If you wish, you can change the course name in the 'Full course name' field (e.g. add the semester and year).
  5. Click 'Create a new Moodle course' to finish.

The link has been successfully created if a chain link symbol is displayed under the status in the My subjects view on the MOIS desktop and a link to a new Moodle course has appeared in the subject line.

A newly created course is empty by default. Before you can start using the course, you must select what you want to display on the course page. It is possible to create the course from scratch, i.e. use the empty preset Moodle base. Alternatively, content from an earlier Moodle course can be transferred to the new course.

KURSUSE LOOMINE TÜHJALE VAIKESEADETEGA PÕHJALE

MOIS-i abil loodud uus Moodle'i kursus on vaikimisi tühi. Kui soovid kursust algusest peale üles ehitama hakata, liigu uue kursuse lehel olles jaotisesse Kursuse mallid.

  • Vali kursuse mall (eesti- või ingliskeelne) ning vajuta nupule 'Malli kasutamine', et eelhäälestatud kursusepõhi enda uuele kursusele tuua.
    • Kinnita tühja kursusepõhja impordi soov, vajutades järgnevas vaates nupule 'Impordi'

    A new Moodle course created using MOIS is empty by default. If you want to start building the course from scratch, go to the Course Templates section on the new course page.

    1. Choose a course template (Estonian or English) and press the 'Use template' button to bring the preset course base to your new course.
    2. Confirm  import by pressing the 'Import' button in the following view.

    MOIS-i abil loodud uus Moodle'i kursus on vaikimisi tühi. Kui soovite kursusele importida sisu mõnelt oma varasemalt kursuselt, liikuge jaotisesse 'Sisu üleviimine teiselt kursuselt'.

  • Kasuta otsingukasti soovitud kursuse leidmiseks.
  • Kui soovitud kursus on leitud, vajuta selle kursuse real nuppu 'Impordi kursus', et soovitud sisu uuele kursusele üle tuua.
    • Vali impordi sätetest 'Liigu viimase toimingu juurde', et kogu sisu importida, või vajuta 'Edasi', kui soovid imporditavaid vahendeid ja tegevusi ükshaaval määrata. 

    A new Moodle course created using MOIS is empty by default. If you want to import content from one of your previous courses into the course, go to 'Transfer content from another course'.


    1. Use the search box to find the desired course.
    2. Once the desired course has been found, press the 'Import course' button in the line of this course to transfer the desired content to the new course.
    3. Select 'Go to last action' from the import settings to import all content, or press 'Next' if you want to specify the tools and actions to be imported one by one.

    Select the option 'Link a Moodle course to a subject in ÕIS' from the MOIS desktop.

    1. Select your existing Moodle course that you want to pair with the ÕIS subject-lecturer pair from the drop-down menu 'Select Moodle course'.


    2. Choose the semester with which you want to pair the Moodle course and subject lecturer.


    3. Choose which Moodle course will be merged with the subject-lecturer pair in ÕIS.


    4. To confirm the action, press the button 'Link the Moodle course to the subject in ÕIS'.
